Best for: Homeowners wanting fully automated trimming

Pros

• Line IQ auto line feeding
• Powerload push-button winding
• Telescopic carbon fiber shaft
• Generous 60-minute runtime

Cons

• Heavier than manual fixed-shaft models

The EGO POWER+ 16″ Cordless Weed Trimmer represents the highest level of automation in the current ego string trimmer lineup. Operating under model number ST1623T, this tool pairs a wide 16-inch cutting width with patented Line IQ technology. The auto-sensing system continuously monitors line length and feeds fresh line automatically while trimming, maintaining a full cutting swath without requiring the operator to bump the head against the lawn.

Reloading line on the ego st1623t line iq is handled by patented Powerload technology, which lets you thread line directly through the head and press a button to wind the spool automatically in seconds. Ergonomics are supported by an adjustable telescopic carbon fiber shaft that customizes overall length to the user’s height. Driven by a brushless motor with a digital variable speed selector, the tool runs up to 60 minutes on the included 4.0Ah battery, which recharges in 55 minutes using the supplied CH3200 charger.

Weighing 7.5 pounds, this model stands out as the best ego grass trimmer for homeowners managing medium-to-large properties who want zero-hassle line management. Its hands-free feeding protects turf from aggressive bumping during weekly maintenance. However, buyers seeking a simpler mechanical system without electronic sensors may find manual alternatives further down the lineup more fitting.

Best for: Households sharing tools among multiple users

Pros

• Push-button Powerload winding
• Adjustable telescopic aluminum shaft
• Two selectable speed settings

Cons

• Heavier at 10.3 pounds

Best for: Suburban yards needing simple dependable trimming

Pros

• Lightweight 7.4-pound weight
• Fast 50-minute battery recharge
• Low-vibration brushless motor

Cons

• Manual twist head reloading
• Non-adjustable straight shaft

The EGO POWER+ 15″ Cordless Weed Trimmer (model ST1502SA) serves as the foundational standalone workhorse for general residential maintenance. It delivers a 15-inch cutting swath strung with professional-grade 0.095-inch line, making quick work of fence perimeters, sidewalk edging, and general summer weed growth. Homeowners evaluating different battery ecosystems often review our greenworks weed eater analysis before deciding on standard 56-volt yard platforms.

The ego st1502sa trimmer utilizes a mechanical Rapid Reload head to replenish cutting line. Users align the arrows on the head housing, push the line through, and twist the head manually until wound. Powered by a high-efficiency brushless motor capable of 5800 rpm, the trimmer provides variable speed control via the trigger. The bundled 2.5Ah battery provides up to 45 minutes of runtime on a single charge and reaches full capacity in 50 minutes using the included CH2100 charger.

At 7.4 pounds, this unit is easy to maneuver along flower beds and garden borders without causing premature arm fatigue. It is an ideal fit for families with standard suburban lots who prefer mechanical simplicity over automated electronic push-buttons. That said, users looking for telescopic height adjustment will prefer stepping up to an adjustable-shaft model.

Bridging traditional trimmer handling with automated line convenience, the EGO Power+ 15″ Cordless Weed Trimmer (model ST1511T) removes the frustration of manual spool winding. It offers a 15-inch cutting swath using 0.095-inch line, augmented by EGO’s patented Powerload system. Instead of winding line by hand, you feed line straight through the eyelets and press the onboard button to wind the spool cleanly in seconds.

Another prominent feature of the ego st1511t powerload is its telescopic aluminum shaft. This mechanism lets multiple family members quickly adapt the tool’s working length for improved posture and back comfort. The brushless motor reaches speeds up to 5800 rpm, managed through a two-speed variable trigger. The included 2.5Ah battery offers up to 45 minutes of active runtime and charges in 50 minutes using the supplied CH2100 charger.

Weighing 10.3 pounds, the ST1511T carries extra mass compared to basic straight-shaft trimmers, reflecting the aluminum adjustment hardware and motorized winding assembly. It is best suited for multi-user households that prioritize ergonomic adjustability and push-button line winding. Gardeners wanting maximum cutting width or a lighter carbon fiber shaft will want to look toward the 16-inch ST1623T instead.

Best for: Owners of EGO Multi-Head systems

Pros

• Lightweight 3.4-pound attachment weight
• Lifetime carbon fiber shaft warranty
• Wide 16-inch cutting swath

Cons

• Requires power head and battery separately

The EGO STA1600 16-Inch Carbon Fiber String is designed specifically for users committed to a modular outdoor tool setup. Serving as a dedicated ego multi head string trimmer attachment, this unit connects to EGO POWER+ power heads such as the PH1400 and PH1420 (available separately). Property owners exploring attachment-capable yard systems can also inspect our milwaukee grass trimmer breakdown to compare multi-tool architectures.

This attachment features a wide 16-inch cutting swath pre-wound with professional-grade 0.095-inch spiral-twist line, spinning up to 8500 rpm. Line loading flexibility matches your chosen power unit: pairing it with the PH1420 enables push-button Powerload operation, while connecting to the PH1400 uses standard Rapid Reload manual twisting. The lightweight carbon fiber shaft is backed by a lifetime warranty, and the entire assembly features IPX4 weather-resistant construction.

Weighing just 3.4 pounds as a bare attachment, the STA1600 keeps front-end weight low during extended edging along driveways and curbs. It suits homeowners who want to run multiple tools—such as pole saws, edgers, and hedge trimmers—from a single power unit. However, because it includes no battery, charger, or motor head, it is not intended for shoppers seeking an out-of-the-box standalone tool.

It also features a variable speed dial from 250 to 530 CFM with a lock-on cruise-control button. The kit includes a 4.0Ah 56V battery that charges in 80 minutes with the supplied CH2100 charger.

Designed to maintain clean lawn borders and tidy walkways after mowing, both tools run on EGO’s 56V platform. Buyers comparing residential multi-tool kits often check our craftman weed wacker overview for perspective on bundled yard care packages.

The trimmer is built with EGO’s Rapid Reload head, where 0.095-inch spiral-twist line is threaded through aligned arrows and manually wound by twisting the head. It employs a bump-feed advance to supply line across the 15-inch cutting swath. The companion blower delivers up to 530 CFM and 110 MPH in turbo mode, with an adjustable variable speed dial operating from 260 to 400 CFM for standard sweeping. The kit includes a 2.5Ah battery and a 210W standard charger, with both tools featuring IPX4 weather-resistant housings.

At 18.3 pounds for the total package, this setup offers a lightweight alternative to heavier blower combos. It suits smaller suburban yards where light leaf clearing and basic border trimming are the primary needs. However, buyers facing heavy autumn leaf piles or seeking push-button line loading will find the ST6703LB combo kit better suited to their workload.
